Smart-Well Rapid-Read Biological Indicator Incubator

Mesa Labs Smart-Well Incubator allows incubation of 10 bacterial spore ampoules. They can be placed in the incubator slots at any time (simultaneously or sequentially). Each slot is individually monitored, and the documentation system progressively generates reports for each sample. Reports include the incubation slot number, Smart-Read test result, start time and date of incubation, elapsed time since the test was placed in the incubator, and additional user-programmed information in the Smart-Well system: type of sterilization cycle (e.g., flash, gravity, vacuum), sterilization cycle number, cycle temperature and exposure time, name of the person performing the test, and Smart-Read test batch number.

A significant convenience is the incubator’s built-in crushing slot, which activates the tests after removal from the sterilizer chamber and cooling. After the strips with bacterial spores in the ampoule are moistened with the growth medium, the test can be placed in one of the ten incubation slots. An additional eleventh slot serves for comparative incubation of an unsterilized ampoule.

The incubation process, test result signaling, and report printing are fully automatic. The device maintains the proper temperature (55–60°C) and monitors incubation time.
The rapid-read biological test system, including ready-to-use ampoules with Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores and growth medium, and the compatible automatic Smart-Well incubator, allows 100% confirmation of sterilization effectiveness.
