SPORAL Test - Biological Test for Autoclaves

The ability to perform reliable sterilization control tests independently, without sending biological material to specialized laboratories, is a great convenience for smaller facilities. Using Sporal-type tests requires only basic training.

Sporal test strips are impregnated with bacterial spores, ready to develop under favorable conditions when combined with a special growth medium. The bacteria multiply only if they have not been destroyed during the sterilization process. Available options include Sporal A and Sporal S tests. Each indicator contains no fewer than 1x10⁶ spores.

The Sporal test is placed inside the autoclave chamber along with the sterilized medical instruments. After the process is completed, the strip should be transferred into a tube with culture medium and incubated for 7 days. A change in the color or turbidity of the medium indicates sterilization failure.

Sporal A or Sporal S tests can also be sent to a sanitary-epidemiological station (Sanepid) for incubation. This is a convenient option for small practices that sterilize infrequently or do not yet own an incubator.
